DBC souhaite sensibiliser les femmes \u00e0 l'importance de conna\u00eetre et de comprendre la densit\u00e9 de leurs seins afin qu'elles puissent \u00eatre proactives dans la r\u00e9duction de leur risque et qu'elles puissent \u00e9galement avoir des discussions inform\u00e9es avec leurs fournisseurs de soins de sant\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L'importance de la densit\u00e9 mammaire : <\/strong>Les seins denses pr\u00e9sentent deux risques : \n\n1. Les femmes ayant des seins denses ont plus de chances de d\u00e9velopper un cancer du sein. \n\n 2. Les tissus denses peuvent masquer le cancer. Les femmes ayant des seins denses peuvent b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier d'un d\u00e9pistage suppl\u00e9mentaire afin de r\u00e9duire le nombre de diagnostics de cancer manqu\u00e9s ou retard\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L'importance d'un d\u00e9pistage optimal: <\/strong>La d\u00e9tection pr\u00e9coce du cancer du sein offre les meilleures chances de survie. Le taux de survie \u00e0 cinq ans est de 99,8 % au stade 1 et de 23 % au stade 4. La d\u00e9tection pr\u00e9coce permet \u00e9galement d'\u00e9viter la chimioth\u00e9rapie, la mastectomie et la dissection axillaire. Le d\u00e9pistage optimal comprend un d\u00e9pistage annuel \u00e0 partir de 40 ans et jusqu'\u00e0 74 ans, ainsi qu'un d\u00e9pistage suppl\u00e9mentaire pour les femmes ayant des seins denses.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tNotre \u00e9quipe\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/densebreastscanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/jennie-photoshopped-final.jpg\" alt=\"jennie photoshopped final\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"422\" width=\"422\" title=\"jennie photoshopped final\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\tJennie Dale\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>JENNIE DALE<\/strong><br \/><strong>Cofondatrice, la directrice ex\u00e9cutive<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jennie is the Executive Director of Dense Breasts Canada (DBC). She lives in Ontario. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2014. Inspired by the successful advocacy efforts of American organizations, &#8220;areyoudense.org&#8221; and &#8220;densebreast-info.org,&#8221; Jennie co-founded DBC with Michelle Di Tomaso in 2016 and has teamed up with breast cancer survivors nationwide to raise awareness of the risks of dense breasts and to advocate for optimal breast screening. Together, they have successfully advocated for changes in policy in all Canadian provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, six provinces notify all women of their breast density and four provinces have committed to notification in 2023. The work continues until all Canadian women are informed of their breast density and provided supplemental screening. Provincially, the advocacy has expanded to include advocating that all women be allowed to self-refer for a mammogram starting at age 40.<\/p>\n<p>Jennie is also involved with leading breast cancer experts in advocating on a federal level and meets with MPs to advocate for necessary revisions to the current Canadian Task Force breast cancer screening guidelines, which put women&#8217;s lives at risk.<\/p>\n<p>She completed a comparison of provincial breast cancer screening practices and is working with the DBC team to ensure all Canadian women can access the screening they need. She is a firm believer that your postal code should not determine whether breast cancer is detected early.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Jennie was named a top 5 finalist in Charity Village&#8217;s awards in the category of Most Outstanding Impact by a Volunteer.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/densebreastscanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Michelle-Di-Tomaso.jpg\" alt=\"Michelle Di Tomaso\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"423\" width=\"423\" title=\"Michelle Di Tomaso\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\tMichelle Di Tomaso\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>MICHELLE DI TOMASO<\/strong><br \/><strong>Cofondatrice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Michelle est cofondatrice de Seins Denses Canada. En ao\u00fbt 2014, elle a re\u00e7u un diagnostic de cancer du sein triple positif, stade 2B. Au cours des deux ann\u00e9es qui ont suivi, elle a subi deux op\u00e9rations, des traitements de chimioth\u00e9rapie (AC, Taxol et Herceptin) et de radioth\u00e9rapie, une mastectomie bilat\u00e9rale et trois chirurgies de reconstruction mammaire rat\u00e9es. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 hospitalis\u00e9e pendant 25 jours.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle a \u00e9t\u00e9 inform\u00e9e que son diagnostic de cancer avait \u00e9t\u00e9 retard\u00e9 de trois ans, parce qu\u2019elle avait des seins denses. Si le cancer avait \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pist\u00e9 plus t\u00f4t, le traitement aurait probablement \u00e9t\u00e9 limit\u00e9 \u00e0 la chirurgie.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle is from British Columbia, the first Canadian province where advocacy resulted in density notification to all women, in 2018. In 2019, Michelle continued to advocate successfully to ensure that women in British Columbia with dense breasts had the ability to access screening ultrasound, now paid for by MSP.\u00a0 <br \/><\/p>\n<p>After five years of successful advocacy, the DBC team&#8217;s efforts have resulted in all provinces making policy change, to varying degrees. Six provinces tell all women their breast density and five provinces\/territories tell women in the highest category.\u00a0 Four of these will begin telling women in all categories in 2023. Gordon, OBC, MD, FRCPC, FSBI<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Conseill\u00e8re m\u00e9dicale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dre Paula Gordon est professeure clinique au d\u00e9partement de radiologie de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique. Elle est directrice du Sadie Diamond Breast Program du BC Women\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Durant les ann\u00e9es 80, ses recherches sur les biopsies mammaires sous guidage \u00e9chographique ont permis \u00e0 cette technologie de devenir la norme de soins au travers le monde. Cette intervention a permis possible le diagnostic exact des masses au sein qui exigeaient ant\u00e9rieurement une intervention et a permis aux femmes d\u2019\u00e9viter la chirurgie pour les anomalies non canc\u00e9reuses.<\/p>\n<p>Au cours de sa carri\u00e8re, Dre Gordon a publi\u00e9 30 articles dans des revues \u00e0 comit\u00e9 de lecture. Son travail de recherche au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1990 \u00e9tait le premier \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer que l\u2019ultrason pouvait d\u00e9tecter les cancers non d\u00e9tect\u00e9s par les mammographies. Ceci a engendr\u00e9 un changement de paradigme dans la gestion du d\u00e9pistage chez les femmes aux seins denses qui a d\u00e9but\u00e9 aux \u00c9.-U. en 2009, et qui s\u2019\u00e9tend maintenant au Canada, au Royaume-Uni, en Australie et en Europe.<\/p>\n<p>En 1996, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 membre du groupe de travail d\u2019experts du centre de sant\u00e9 des femmes de la C.-B. pour un programme pilote au sujet de l\u2019\u00e9valuation et de diagnostic mammaire.  Depuis, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 directrice m\u00e9dicale du Sadie Diamond Breast Program de 2007 \u00e0 2019.  Au cours de cette p\u00e9riode, elle a obtenu des fonds de la fondation Diamond et de l\u2019autorit\u00e9 provinciale de services de sant\u00e9 en vue d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir la premi\u00e8re technologie de tomosynth\u00e8se (mammographie 3D) en C.-B. et cr\u00e9er la bourse de recherche d\u2019imagerie du sein de Vancouver dans le but de former les leaders du futurs de ce domaine. Elle a fait en sorte que les stagiaires puissent alterner entre le centre de soins de sant\u00e9 de la femme de la C.-B., l\u2019organisme du cancer de la C.-B. et le bureau de Dre Warren et associ\u00e9s afin d\u2019assurer leur exposition \u00e0 de multiples experts. En raison de la r\u00e9putation du programme, elle a \u00e9galement form\u00e9 des boursiers auto-financ\u00e9s d\u2019autres provinces, des \u00c9.-U. et du Moyen-Orient<\/p>\n<p>Avec l\u2019acquisition de la tomosynth\u00e8se, Dre Gordon a permis \u00e0 la ville de Vancouver de figurer parmi l\u2019un des premiers sites canadiens \u00e0 se joindre au TMIST : the tomosynthesis mammographic imaging screening trial (essai sur le d\u00e9pistage du cancer du sein par imagerie de tomosynth\u00e8se mammaire), un essai multicentrique financ\u00e9 par la FDA. Ceci lui a permis de donner des centaines d\u2019heures b\u00e9n\u00e9voles en participant \u00e0 la planification et \u00e0 la pr\u00e9paration du proc\u00e8s en tant que site principal canadien.<\/p>\n<p>Dre Gordon est tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e pour son mentorat d\u2019\u00e9tudiants en m\u00e9decine, des r\u00e9sidents en radiologie et des boursiers en imagerie du sein, ainsi que pour l\u2019enseignement qu\u2019elle offre \u00e0 ses patients individuels et au public. She is a graduate of the Canadian Board Diversity Council Program and a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors. She is an avid runner and her greatest joy is her family. She lives in Montreal. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2013 at age 42. After a normal mammogram, Annie discovered a lump six months later. As a breast cancer survivor, she feels strongly about giving back and advocating for women. She also is passionate about ensuring that women receive information about their breast density so that they can make informed healthcare decisions. Annie began working with DBC in 2018. For the past five years, Annie has been raising awareness through numerous interviews in the media, actively spreading the word on social media and speaking to women at events. She has been advocating intensively for policy change.<\/p>\n<p>Quebec was the first province to make it mandatory to include breast density information in the mammogram report sent to the doctor. However, doctors are not relaying the density information to women and most women do not know to ask their doctor. The government committed to providing the density category in the Health Booklet in 2021, but this is not enough. Annie continues to advocate so that all women in Quebec will be told their breast density in their mammogram results letter, as is being done in other provinces.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/densebreastscanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Joan.jpg\" alt=\"Joan\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"422\" width=\"422\" title=\"Joan\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\tJoan Bush\n\t\t\t\t<b>JOAN BUSH<\/b><br \/>\n<strong>Advisor <\/strong>\n<p>Joan Bush has served in a variety of capacities: as a Director of The McMichael Canadian Art Collection, a Director of Canada-Rwanda Board of Trade, member of the International Women&#8217;s Forum (IWF) executive, and a board member of the Yee Hong Wellness Foundation, which supports culturally and linguistically appropriate care for over 15,000 seniors from different ethnic communities. She is also a member of the Women for Nature Initiative. She has also served two terms as a governor on the Board of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. In 2012, Joan became a recipient of Queen&#8217;s Diamond Jubilee for her outstanding community service. As a Director of the Kiani Foundation, she has contributed extensively to the community through numerous charities including hospitals, scholarships, youth education, and women&#8217;s shelters. Joan is passionate about raising awareness of the risks of dense breasts and ensuring that women across Canada are informed of their density and the importance of additional screening. Her professional background is in Marketing, Advertising and Graphic Design. &#8220;In 2020, I set out in search of a place where my contributions would feel more meaningful,&#8221; and that summer she met the co-founders of Dense Breasts Canada, Jennie Dale and Michelle Di Tomaso. &#8220;When I first spoke with Jennie and Michelle I knew I had found a network of women who were passionately advocating to make better changes for women&#8217;s breast health across Canada. They rally with that same passion every day, relentlessly fighting for better breast density notification, and necessary revisions to the current Canadian Task Force breast cancer screening guidelines, which put Canadian women&#8217;s lives at risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dense Breasts Canada has made great progress in educating and advocating for women with dense breast tissue in Canada, and Eevin-Leigh continues advocating by volunteering her creativity as a designer for their social media pages. Victoria has a PhD from University College London and 15 years&#8217; experience in research, strategy, and innovation, across multiple sectors. She has worked across in women&#8217;s health in both a research capacity and as the Senior Director of Strategy at BC Women&#8217;s Health Foundation. In her three years at BCWHF, Victoria was instrumental in driving the BC Women&#8217;s Health Foundation from a foundation that served BC Women&#8217;s Hospital to a provincial foundation dedicated to improving women&#8217;s health.
